Sectarianism or terrorism?

Author: Daily Times

Sir: In Karachi, an unconscionable act of barbarism in a procession — already grief-stricken with the memory of the martyrs of Karbala — has jolted the hearts of the whole nation. The loss of innocent people and children has bruised the very soul of Pakistan. This wave of terrorism does not seem to be ending anytime soon.

In such a disturbingly turbulent situation, the statements given by our government officials, including the interior minister and the president, seem to have forsaken reality altogether and sound utterly irresponsible. Two days before the cruel happening, the admission of an ‘expected’ terrorist act during the course of religious activities in Muharram by our interior minister tends to create a wave of concern among prudent citizens and analysts. The post-terrorist act statement by our president tries to conceal the truth by tagging the unfortunate event as ‘sectarian violence’, when almost everyone knows who are the real elements behind the scenes.
As a disturbed citizen, I would like to request the officials to at least speak intelligently if they are unable to act in an effective way, because a trifling of idiocy in the statements of officials may render us even more vulnerable to the threat of terrorism.
