Sir: We Pakistanis are strange people. When we go abroad, especially to the developed countries, we start following their laws and do not dare to defy them, fearing that such an action will bring severe punishment and embarrassment for us. But, unfortunately, we all act in a contradictory fashion in Pakistan. We disobey all the laws present in our country. Why is this so? It is because we all know that the disobedience of such laws will not bring brutal punishments to us or we will save ourselves from terrible consequences, either by greasing officials’ palms or by seeking the help of some influential person. However, this needs to change. Every citizen should follow the law. There is an immense discrimination between the civilians and the people who are in the defence forces; each day I myself face this discrimination. While entering the check post in Malir Cantt, we are not allowed to enter if our cars have tinted windows, etc, but recently I saw many army officials’ cars entering along with tinted windows. However, when it comes to us civilians, they just stop us at the check post and do not allow us to proceed. We are made to wait in long queues outside the check post. I know this is all for of our security, but the provisions of every law must apply to every citizen, not only the ordinary ones.
