Reform required

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Islamabad police is reviving the old beats system in which individual police officers are made responsible for a certain area. Even though the provision for the system is part of the Police Rules 1934, it was never properly implemented in the city. The city police have devised an exclusive security plan under which the areas falling under every police station will be divided into various beats, with the beat in-charges made responsible for their respective areas.
This will certainly improve the law and order situation in the capital city, provided the police force has a proper plan regarding this system. An important factor that should be given top priority is that the police officers should have a code of conduct for dealing with the locals so that they feel safe.
