RAHIM YAR KHAN: Ghulab Singh, a phony faith healer, raped two women in Jetha Bhatta.
The women’s families say that Ghulab Singh took the victims with him to cure them of the ‘jinns’ that had allegedly taken over them. Singh raped the two women on Monday night, according to sources.
In a similar case of fake faith healers/criminals, a woman along with her husband was arrested for selling a baby in Muzaffargarh. The woman claimed to be a faith healer. The parents of the child said that they had taken their baby to the faith healer in Juggu Wala where the woman had taken the baby inside a room and after two hours had declared the baby dead.
In Pakistan faith healers have thrived in the backward areas of the country where they prey on illiterate poor people living in villages that have contracted diseases and do not have proper medical facilities to avail. Faith healers claim that they have been possessed by evil spirits and also that they can cure those who are possessed. They extract money from people and sometimes are also involved in crimes like abduction, selling of children, body parts and rape.
