PHC orders flouted

Author: Daily Times

Sir: On April 25, the Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Dost Mohammed Khan ordered immediate suspension of the DG CAA until completion of re-investigation of the Airblue crash and investigations into Bhoja crash by independent international experts. This was a public interest case moved by the legal heirs of the Airblue crash victims and former MNA Marvi Memon. The court has also issued a show cause notice to the Bhoja management and the CAA asking why the airline operations should not be suspended. The death of 152 victims of the Airblue and 132 fatalities of the Bhoja crash has made little difference to the attitude of our so-called leaders. Almost a week has lapsed and the court’s order is still not implemented. This only proves that the government, the defence ministry and CAA are deliberately creating hurdles in order to cover up the facts and conceal their criminal negligence in carrying out regulatory functions. How Bhoja Air and Shaheen Air could be issued licences to operate obsolete aircraft without either of them having a credible maintenance setup is a very serious issue. Other than pep talks, no member of parliament of the ruling coalition has tried to move a motion in the National or provincial Assemblies. It proves that the deaths of 284 human beings is of no significance to our government and its coalition partners.
