PPP has lost its mettle

Author: Daily Times

Sir: I remember Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto once saying, “Larkana can ditch me, but Lyari never will.” That was the kind of faith he had in the loyalties of the people of Lyari. Following her father’s footsteps, Ms Benazir Bhutto gave unwavering attention to Lyari. Though the PPP could never convert Lyari into Paris as has been promised on many an occasion, it never let the people of Lyari have a sense of deprivation. Today the flags of PPP are being burned. One of the ministers of the party was attacked and another’s house attacked. Under Mr Zardari, the PPP has lost its mettle. It is no more the party of the poor; rather it has become a party of big politicians. Mr Zardari might have gained by playing the politics of reconciliation, but in the process, he has made the PPP hollow and empty.
