Sanghar in a dire situation

Author: Daily Times

Sir: District Sanghar is facing a number of serious problems since a long time and no government or public representative from the district has ever tried to solve these problems or even raised any of the issues in the provincial assembly. The district has six talukas; there is no girls’ college in three talukas, i.e Sinjhoro, Khipro and Jam Nawaz Ali. In taluka Khipro, there is only one boys’ college with no teacher for Physics, Chemistry, English, Math, Pakistan Studies and Sindhi for the last 15 years. Hundreds of primary schools have been closed down. Roads from Khipro town to the last border village Kharo Arisar, which is located at the end of the Indian border fence, has been left unattended for the last many years. Similarly, the road from Chor-Umerkot to Kharo Arisar-Tar Saidahoo is in bad shape. If constructed and completed, these road networks would not only herald a new era of economic and social development in Sanghar but would also connect hundreds of Thar villages to one another.

The health delivery system at the DHQ and THQ hospitals and RHCs is in worst condition with no male and female doctors available. Resultantly quackery has become the order of the day, putting thousands of lives in danger. The district headquarter town has no public park, public toilets, or public school. Last year’s flood had left Sanghar in chaos. More than 80 percent of the population suffered and is still in pain.
The people of Sanghar demand of the authorities, particularly President Asif Ali Zardari and Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, to solve these problems on a priority basis. The Sindh government should announce a development package for Sanghar, including the extension of the Hyderabad-Mirpurkhas highway to Sanghar. The people of Sanghar deserve economic development and that could only happen if we are given opportunities.
