Sir: The yesteryear queen of cinema Shabnam’s recent visit to Pakistan made me reminisce about the good old days when our film industry used to shine. A usual reaction would be to think that we are doomed and that our film industry can never flourish again. However, our recent Academy Awards win and the amount of appreciation movies like Bol have gained restores my faith that Pakistan is full of people with amazing talent. Be it established moviemakers like Shoaib Mansoor and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy or young emerging talent, the level of creativity that Pakistani people have is just remarkable. And not just these, many individuals working in sectors like education, poverty alleviation and healthcare have inspired others to follow in their footsteps. People like Dr Junaid Razzak of Aman Foundation and Parveen Rao of One Rupee School make me believe that Pakistan is a wonderful country and Pakistanis are as capable as any other nation. The important thing is we need to highlight the unsung heroes along with our national heroes and believe in a ‘positive’ Pakistan. After all, a positive mindset is always the first step towards success.
