Imran’s political obsession

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Imran Khan and his political party seem to be obsessed with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). The amount of criticism that is heaped by the leadership of the Pakistan Tehrik-Insaaf (PTI) on the Punjab government and silence of the former over the governance of other provincial governments in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and the autonomous AJK seems odd. If it is not an obsession thn should we assume it to be either politics of convenience or an endorsement of governance in other provinces and acquiescing to the state of AJK, considering it better than Punjab? Does Imran Khan seriously think that resignations by the PML-N would exert enough moral pressure on the PPP? Why does Khan not focus on target killings, extortion, kidnapping and corruption that dominate Karachi, KP and Balochistan? Does he realise that Pakistan’s economy has suffered because Karachi has been reduced to a battleground for turf, where armed gangs and their crimes have forced investors to shift to other countries? Is he aware of the fact that in spite of minimal line losses and theft, industries in Faisalabad, Multan, Gujrat, etc, have closed down because of unprecedented load shedding depriving millions of daily wagers of employment? Silence of a political party like the PTI, which claims a following in all federating units of Pakistan, on the political crimes of parties in power is not justified. If Khan wants to continue to assume the moral high ground that he claims to possess in abundance then he has to be fair in his criticism and not be selective; otherwise, this policy of attacking the PML-N alone and being soft on others points to an egoistic obsession to settle old scores.
