Sir: Maulana Abul Sattar Edhi’s contribution to the welfare of Karachi’s people, in particular, has been spectacular. In the recent Lyari operation, where he remained under siege for eight days, his persistence and hard work deserves awards from international organisations. He saved the lives of thousands of Lyari people who would have died of hunger and for want of medical treatment. Even though the government did not allow Edhi’s ambulances and workers to enter Lyari, the latter still managed to work their way through bullets and firing. This particular act of Maulana Abdul Sattar Edhi deserves applaud and recognition internationally.
