Construction of road in Lahore

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Millions of rupees are spent on constructing a road and beautifying it with wide green belts and plants that cannot even survive the weather of Lahore. Just one year later, the competent authorities realise that the load of traffic is too much and they need to widen it, so they pluck the trees out, pull out the pillars and widen the road.

For the last one month, I am watching such an activity on Maulana Shaukat Ali Road leading towards the Raiwind road and Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital. This is not only a sheer waste of money but creates many problems for daily commuters. My concern is why the policy makers cannot think ahead. Why they are not aware of the fact that Lahore is now expanding at a much faster rate, and there is a need for planning that would take into consideration that very important fact?
