Suffering students

Author:

Sir: It has now become an everyday affair in our town that the people have to live in complete darkness for many long hours in the absence of electricity. The attitude of the electricity board seems careless and rather indifferent when it comes to the difficulties felt by the dwellers of the town. I wish to vent about the evils of load shedding through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, so that the concerned authorities come to their senses and take immediate steps to remove this undesirable problem. During the dark hours of the night, we, the students, suffer too much where our studies are concerned for want of light. The old and the sick, and children also suffer in many ways. The criminal elements in society become more active, taking advantage of the darkness, and it becomes risky for one to be out on the dark streets at night.

The curse of load shedding has become like a chronic disease that damages the normal life of the people. Yes, if it were an occasional event, no one would have bothered about it because a sudden breakdown of a generating station might cause it. However, it has now become almost a regular occurrence, which goes to prove the mere negligence and inefficiency of the state’s electricity board. We must, by all means, get rid of this kind of load shedding, which paralyses our normal way of life, especially after dusk. All of us must be united to do something about this. I request the authorities to interfere into this matter in an urgent manner because our lives have come to a halt.
