What has happened to Karachi?

Author:

Sir: Karachi is the largest city in Pakistan. It is the 22nd largest city in the world and has undergone many historical, social and economic crises. In the past, this city was colourful and pleasant with its beautiful evenings and breezy mornings full of hope and optimism. There was a spirit of love and affection among the people of this city. When the population of the city grew due to uncontrolled and unsystematic movement of the people from all the provinces of Pakistan, as well as from other Asian countries in the third world, it created thousands of unmanageable problems.

The fundamental problems are concerned with the basic needs of the people, e.g. water supply, electricity, communications, etc. Slow working progress of developing projects, poor road conditions, transport problems and many other problems have added to the miseries of Karachiites. The biggest problem is the implementation of law and order, which is unfortunately applicable to the poor only. It seems that the law enforcement authorities have failed to control ever increasing terrorism and other crimes. Terrorism has ravaged the peace of the city. The prevailing violence is the result of a political conspiracy, which is spreading at a fast pace. The concerned authorities should take necessary measures to ensure peace in the city for the protection and security of its citizens.
