Sir: What am I voting for? Is it fashionable to vote for a certain party? I was at the polling station in S Block, Defence. Apparently, it seemed as if somehow one can draw a line visually between English and non-English speaking people and deciphering who is going to vote for PML-N and who is going to vote for PTI. The women there actually insulted me and shouted at the polling officers of PML-N, telling them to stay away from them as they had already had their names cancelled out of the PTI list. Apparently, these PML-N girls were simple girls, wearing simple clothes; many of the voters started laughing at them. It was kind of heart breaking for me as I believed change should not be about making distinctions on the basis of the clothes one wears or the language one speaks; it should be global and across all sectors, colours, ethnicity and languages
I am a very strong supporter of the PTI but it scares me for we have tried agriculturalists, industrialists and now social change but it sounds as if we have given way to social elitists who are more judgmental than the ones whom we tried before. My request to all the supporters of change is to please respect the change we envision and also respect the difference of beliefs, colours, ethnicities and sects for we are Pakistanis before being PTI supporters or PML-N supporters; we are human beings even before being Pakistanis. Mr Imran Khan, please tell your followers to go beyond accents and English, and social status. It may be publicly fashionable to be a part of the PTI but Pakistan is not only urban it is also rural. I implore Imran Khan to please be the leader of the masses along with the leader of the classes.
