Operation against extortion starts

KARACHI: The LEA’s have launched a fresh crack down against miscreants active in Lyari town and its surrounding old city areas as the complaints from traders are flooding to them informing about threats for extortion surfacing once again and are escalating before the month of Ramzan al Mubarak and Eid ul fittar.

The operation begun late hours on Wednesday night and ended on Thursday morning in which during a raid in the continuation of over night crackdown the police team confronted miscreants of Liyari Gang WAar Ghaffar Zikri group in their stronghold area Ali Mohammad Mohala during which one suspect was killed while his companions managed to flee away.

SSP Liyari Town Aftab Nizamani told Daily Times that the killed suspect was identified as Hassan Irani who was active commander of LGW Ghaffar Zikri group ” the police is after his other three comrades who managed to escape from the spot”.

“We have escalated the patrolling and snap-checking in the particular areas about where ever we get intelligence information to prevent the miscreant’s activities which are threatening the traders for extorting money during Ramzan al Mubarak” he informed.

During this operation the paramilitary forces with the help area police teams conducted various targeted and search raids in Lee Market, Golimar, Gatar Baghicha, Jamshed Quarters, Solder Bazar, Garden and surrounding areas in which they checked identification of suspected persons with Bio-Metric System and rounded up at least 10 suspects.
