LAHORE: In a bid to avoid annoying voters in the last year of the five-year tenure of the government in Punjab, the ruling Nawaz League has decided not to impose any new tax in the next budget for fiscal year 2017-18.
According sources in the ruling parliamentary party, their government is going to increase salaries of government employees in direct proportion to the federal budget’s announcement. Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana has called the Punjab Assembly’s 29th session today (Friday) to complete compulsory 100 parliamentary days of the sitting of the House. Punjab Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan on Thursday held a pre-session discussion at the Punjab Assembly building and gave a briefing on the agenda of the government. The provincial minister said that the session would continue for the next eight to nine days and then the budget session would be called separately. He told the media that during the 29th session, three bills regarding medical universities and Shehr-e-Khamoshan would be tabled, and the House would decide their fate. Replying to some political questions regarding the current affairs, the minister said that Imran Khan of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf should wait for his turn to come in power until 2023.
Sanaullah said that the PML-N government had succeeded in ending 90 percent of terrorism in the country, and there was a need of military action against safe houses in the southern border areas. About the opposition’s move against PM in Panama Leaks and Dawn Leaks cases, the law minister said that Nawaz Sharif was working on development of the country and only some failed politicians were trying to create hurdles in his way.
