Sir: It is scary how the Pakistani people have forgotten all about compassion. Reports indicate that a maid, only 10 years old, was beaten to death by her employers in Lahore. One wishes this were the first such incident but, sadly, it is not. Rich and powerful oppressors have always thought of the poor as their booty, to do with them as they please. This is why we often hear of domestic staff being abused and hurt at the hands of their ‘masters’.
The government must take steps to ensure that domestic help is protected and those responsible for having their way with them are brought to book. This is just another example of how vile and pathetic our society has become.
