Relaxing while the country burns

Author: Daily Times

Sir: How heartening to note that our Prime Minister (PM), Mr Nawaz Sharif, is enjoying a little ‘vacation’ these days, at a time when the country is engrossed in history-altering debates about whether to negotiate with the Taliban or flush them out for good. According to insider reports, the premier is indulging in a sojourn at a retreat/guesthouse in the Suhanra National Park where his schedule for the trip includes a little hunting jaunt in the Cholistan desert. How pleasurable — for him!

Pakistan is in a state of war and the head of our government is taking a break! Sometimes I cannot believe just how ignorant we are of the blatant disrespect our rulers pay the people. This is not the time for the PM to be partaking of a spot of relaxation; it is the time for him to act in a firm and decisive manner against the militants who have killed thousands of Pakistanis. I am insulted!
