Calamity in Thar and bad governance

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Anyone who has read or heard the news about the sad demise of 21 children due to the drought in Thar, Sindh, must be in shock, especially since 60,000 sacks of wheat are still lying in storage, waiting for distribution among the affected people. This is not the only example of bad governance in Sindh. During the last devastating flood, more than 800 children died due to a measles outbreak throughout Sindh despite medicine being available in abundance – it just could not be administered to all the children in time. Nevertheless, the chief minister of Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, instead of holding the concerned health minister responsible, tried to shift responsibility to the health secretary, claiming that the secretary had not paid any heed to his instructions.?

I request the chief of the ruling PPP in Sindh, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, to personally intervene and ensure good governance in Sindh by making drastic administrative changes in addition to showing mercy on the people of Sindh who have been suffering the worst kind of governance for the last six years. This drought should wake up authorities and make them do their jobs.
