Tharparkar tragedy — I

Author: Daily Times

Sir: The press briefing of the Sindh chief minister regarding the deaths of more than 120 children during the last three months because of famine and drought in Tharparker was pathetic to say the least. He admitted his fault for the tragedy but lost his temper at very pertinent questions from a journalist pointing out the indifferent behaviour and incompetence of the Sindh government in tackling the issue in a timely and proper manner. The chief minister, instead of being jittery, should have resigned along with his cabinet during the briefing after admitting his fault. That would have been the real spirit of democracy and collective responsibility of the cabinet.
