Sir: Unfortunately, we live in a society that is ruthless, rule-less, careless, merciless, and order-less where there is no respect for humanity at all. Ours is a society where the more sinful is supreme, where the more corrupt and criminal is honoured and elevated, and where one who speaks the truth, suffers the most.
Like many others I have concluded that no legislation could by itself do away with the fears, prejudices, and attitudes of pride and selfishness that obstruct the establishment of truly fraternal societies. Such behaviour will cease only through the charity that finds in every man a ‘neighbour’, a brother. Our religious scholars, intellectuals, writers, civil society activists, morality and ethics preachers, practicing Sufis, academicians, educationists, media men, etc, must come forward to promote noble humanistic values to save this morally and spiritually decaying society.
