Peace talks or entertainment

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Peace talks with militants are now more or less a source of entertainment. The nation is once again fooled in the name of peace settlement with those who had not only rejected the constitution but also have their own interpretation of religion.

The government has so far kept up an appeasement policy that has been threatening the future of Pakistan. As a goodwill gesture, prisoners have been released twice and the interior ministry still seems interested in releasing more militants to extend the ceasefire by a few days. What will be next? The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) would be in a strong position after released prisoners go back to join the ranks. Indeed, the actual threat these days is not the TTP but the attitude of the government that is supporting and strengthening the TTP’s power. This nexus between the government and the TTP would make us suffer more in the future.
