Free food

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Hazrat Ali Bin Usman Hajvery’s tomb is surely the most frequented place in Lahore and is considered a spiritual face of the city.

The most famous part of the tomb happens to be the langar (free kitchen). During my recent visit to the tomb I got an opportunity to visit it. Here free food is distributed among the needy.
Divided into two sections, railings are placed on either side to help make proper queues separately by men and women. However, what I find lacking is that there is no arrangement for eating the food. The food items are simply handed over to the people through service windows and then they are on their own. I think the tomb has reasonable income.
If private enterprises like the Bahria Dastar Khwan can provide arrangements to the needy for eating food, why can’t the management of Data Darbar/Punjab Auqaf Department do the same? An area with adequate seating arrangements may be earmarked for the people.
