Story of pride and prejudice

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Will cricket really overtake hockey as Pakistan’s favourite sport? While our hockey team is working hard to regain its lost fame, cricket team members are being elevated onto a higher pedestal. Pakistan’s hockey team’s participation in the Asian Games is still not confirmed due to a missed registration deadline. It seems as if the Pakistani hockey team is working hard on its part but the Hockey Federation of Pakistan and the international platform are not taking them seriously. Where cricket has become the pride of the country, the prejudice against hockey has really given it a backseat at both the national and international levels. Lack of funding, facilities and poor administration have contributed to the downfall of hockey. The government and the media need to put aside these biases to make a positive contribution in promoting hockey for it is still a sport of great admiration for Pakistan.
