Sir: A parliamentary committee has been formed to give suggestions for the reform of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECB). The committee should keep the below mentioned points in mind along with other suitable ones while finalising its recommendations.
Electronic machines should be recommended for the next general elections. By doing so, the role of the polling staff will considerably be reduced. The ECP should also be made completely autonomous, not only on paper but practically. The Indian example is worth mentioning here. Though a routine process, the Indian government had to take permission from its election commission before appointing the new chief of army staff during election season. Such should be the authority of an independent and impartial election commission.
