Roads and the deaths of pregnant women

Author:

Sir: Whenever I reflect upon the pace of construction of roads upon roads in the federal capital of Islamabad, I always think of the deplorable condition of the roads in my resource and revenue rich home province of Sindh where road mishaps claim hundreds of lives every month. Moreover, it is a painful reality that every year thousands of women die from pregnancy-related causes. So much so that many cities, towns, villages and hamlets, even in this 21st century, do not have access to paved roads and many families do not have the money to get proper treatment for mother and child, hence they die a premature death. Is there anyone willing to shake up the conscience of our ruling elite so that they may also provide properly paved roads to the population beyond Zero Point, Islamabad? Will they think about rural Pakistan?
