Water released into Dadu Canal

DADU: After completion of the 58 mile remodeling project of Dadu canal, water has been released into the canal to cultivate 1.3 million acres of land for paddy, vegetable and cotton crops.

SE-Superintendent Engineer of southern division irrigation department Dadu, Sajid Ali Bhutto said that flow of water was closed into Dadu canal while the remodeling of the canal was being done. He said that the bed of canal was silted three feet high which was creating hindrances in the design capacity and there were complaints of water shortages.. He said that following the directives of CM Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, the remodeling of Dadu canal worth of 500 million rupees from ADP- Annual Development Program was started from April 1, and it was completed on Saturday and 1,500 cusecs of water out of 3,500 was released on the first day and it would be increased gradually on a daily basis.

He said that the gates of five main regulators of the Dadu canal and its off taking channels were replaced. He said that the work of week portions of Dadu canal at Sita and Pat Sharif, Wadha regulators downstream were continuing.

He said that most towns like, Sita, Pat Sharif, Mehar, KN Shah, Dadu and Johi also will receive water for drinking purposes which was stopped owing to the remodeling work.
