Sir: Last year I paid Rs 8,250 in token tax for my Lahore registered 1,800 cc car. This year, I had to pay Rs 20,300, an increase of around 15 percent. This steep increase aside, I was disappointed to learn that I was charged Rs 12,000 as income tax; whereas the government had announced that tax filers would need to pay only Rs 6,000 (please see http://www.excise-punjab.gov.pk/motor-vehicles-tax.aspx). When I raised this point with the staff at the post office, they simply shrugged their shoulders and said that they were under instructions to charge Rs 12,000.
Can someone in the Excise and Taxation Department explain why they are not following the policy?
