PML-N and privatisation

Author: Daily Times

Sir: The Nawaz Sharif government has taken a positive decision to privatise some profitable business entities like UBL and PPL. These entities provide regular profit on their shares, and their sale will include disinvestment of government-owned shares in these entities.

I would suggest that instead of selling these profitable shares to foreigners, the PML-N government should instead sell the shares of these entities to Pakistanis through the Directorate of National Savings.

These shares will not only provide a regular income to Pakistani citizens, the profitability of these businesses will remain in Pakistan and will be utilised here. Since the Directorate of National Saving is an established organisation, the sale of these stocks through the National Savings mechanism will be quite easy.
