PESHAWAR: In a series of attacks, assailants threw grenades at a school and four homes in Shabqadar, wounding at least 15 people, including women and students, police said on Saturday.

Police officials said the grenades were thrown in the town of Shabqadar near Mohmand tribal agency. “The attackers managed to flee from the scene, however police has launched a hunt for those responsible,” said Zaman Khan, a police official. Khan added that no group claimed responsibility for the attacks, which caused panic among residents.

In Bannu, police’s counter-terrorism department arrested a Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander in Mundan village. Mansoorullah Ali alias Qiyaz is believed to be the mastermind behind attack on Mundan police station in Bannu on February 7. Police said the TTP commander was found in possession of explosives, grenades and material used for making bombs. In Peshawar, police and law enforcement agencies conducted a joint raid at a house and found 400 kilogrammes of military-grade explosives.

Addressing a press conference, CCPO Tahir Khan and SSP Operations Sajjad Khan said the explosives were seized from the house of Hunzala in Shamshato Refugee Camp, an area falling within the jurisdiction of Mattani police station.
