Wedding trends in Pakistan

Author: Daily Times

Sir: in Pakistan, weddings include many pointless and extravagant traditions, which is not a problem of high profile people or people who belong to high-class families. However, it is an immense problem for middle-class families to fulfil these traditions. It is observed that nowadays people prefer signature makeup and branded dresses for weddings, which is unaffordable for most of the people in the society.

These acts show how these useless traditions have become a matter of prestige and status for the people. Because of the emerging trends, these norms are adopted by those who cannot even afford them. It is high time to stop all these unnecessary norms by changing the attitude of society as a whole and by adopting an approach that is more practical. The media can play a vital role regarding educating people to switch to economic traditions. However, unfortunately, the media is doing the exact reverse. It is important that media should adopt some code of ethic rather promoting a materialistic approach. The government should also play a role regarding this issue by inspiring people to adopt a realistic approach towards these unnecessary marriage functions.
