Time to call off

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Imran should have called off his protest after embarrassing the government enough for over three weeks for its reluctance to listen to the grievances of the PTI on electoral reforms and to ignore the general discontent felt across the opposition parties on the indifferent attitude of the government inside and outside parliament. It is always wise to end a protest campaign when at the height of the offensive. Protest campaigns by their very nature slacken and lose momentum after a time. I will not submit to the general impression though that Imran will come out of this crisis as a weak politician. He could be considered unpragmatic, who refused to retreat when the time was right. But the fact he has been able to galvanize and engage people towards a cause that has long been shelved at the convenience of the politicians who never had the will to revamp the electoral system of the country because the vested interest lay in maintaining the status quo, is enough to prove Imran’s worth and stature. If only Imran could hear, there is no harm in calling this protest a day. Imran, you have made your point now; do not waste it.
