Sir: As we all know, September 11, 2014 marked the thirteenth anniversary of the treacherous attacks on the US by extremists. As an Ahmedi, I understand what it is like to have to live with the constant fear of being attacked. This is because Ahmedis are persecuted readily in many countries, including my birth country of Pakistan, because our beliefs do not satisfy the other Islamic sects. Even though the attacks on the US were tragic and unjust, nonetheless I do not think this means that we have the right to retaliate and run over other countries just to show our superiority. All religions including Islam promote nothing but peace. Unfortunately, some extremists have tainted this peaceful image. Similarly, I don’t want my country to be looked down upon for the actions that all Americans do not agree with. After all, what is peace if it is spread by violence? And what is democracy if it is forced upon a country? After the 9/11 attacks and its ensuing effects, it is clear that the world is thirsty for peace and love. It is time to put aside all egos, weapons and distrust. It is time to have love for all and hatred for none.
