Joint resolve

Author: Daily Times

Sir: It is welcome that the joint session of parliament passed a joint resolution in support of democracy and in favour of the supremacy of our Constitution. The resolution reiterated the commitment of parliamentarians to the cause of defending the institution of parliament and the democratic system at large. Though the system and parliament both need to be more public-oriented and lay out their priorities with a view to making the country a welfare society, to derail or destabilise the system through the politics of aggression and agitation is not the solution, come what may. No matter how inevitable and desirable the change that is being drummed about may be, it should be executed and implemented through democratically justified means only, and all extra-constitutional acts should be thwarted.
