Sir: A global Islamic campaign is underway that includes the participation of elite scholars and preachers from Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Arab and Muslim world. They have joined hands in condemning the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) for the horrific acts of mass killing, torture, displacement of people and oppressing of women, which has never been part of the Islamic religion. Leaders at the Grand Mosque in the French capital have condemned their acts by saying, “Barbarians are perpetrating the worst crimes against humanity and now threaten people, [as well as] stability and peace among the people of the entire region. The signatories unequivocally denounce the terrorist acts that constitute crimes against humanity and solemnly declare that Islam does not advocate such groups, their supporters and their recruits. These actions from another age, calling for jihad, and reckless campaigns indoctrinating the youth are not true to the teachings or of Islam.” ISIS is a threat to the whole of society in the Middle East and to the international community. It must be destroyed and crushed in the name of humanity.
