Stop derailing the democratic process

Sir: It has been almost 45 days since the sit-ins began at Constitution Avenue. We witnessed many fiery and rebellious speeches during this time. Many slogans were raised and the resignation of the elected prime minister was demanded for the welfare of Pakistan and its citizens. All the party followers did what their leaders asked them to do regarding the peaceful march. It is absolutely correct in some ways because the Constitution grants us the right to freedom of expression, freedom of speech and many other such fundamental rights. But if we see the other side of the story we can see the childish attitude of this leadership. Days are passing by but nothing is happening. It is more like a deadlock now. Just dancing, singing and enjoying music is not the way out. Blocking roads, damaging important infrastructure and disturbing common citizens’ regular movement is not a democratic process. Now Imran Khan is readying himself for more shows of power around the country, but for what reason? If you make the claim that: “Change is not coming, change is here”, where is your tabdeeli (change)? Harassing or defaming someone is not tabdeeli. If your followers are openly pestering and abusing others by using unethical language, although it is their right to freely express their ideas, use of abusive language cannot be tolerated by any self-respecting person. No one is saying that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s (PTI’s) concerns are wrong but their demands can be met while remaining within the Constitution. It can be done peacefully without creating such chaos and disturbance for others. It is good to see that the youth is with Imran Khan but they need to be respectful towards each other, otherwise it just shows their immature attitudes. This platform can be used for doing many other good things. People have so many expectations from Imran Khan. Our foreign policy has been shattered due to these sit-ins. The stock exchange has been badly affected. If Imran Khan really cares for the nation and wants to make a ‘New Pakistan’, then he should do it constitutionally and follow the rules and regulations.
