Dengue coming to haunt the twin cities

Author: Daily Times

Sir: I want to direct the attention of the higher authorities and health officials in the Punjab government towards the looming threat of dengue in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. According to official sources, there have been more than 200 positive dengue cases reported in Rawalpindi. This is a very alarming situation for the citizens of the twin cities. Dengue larvae are present everywhere in the twin cities. One can easily observe dengue larvae in parks, bus stands, public toilets, ponds, green belts, lawns and garbage heaps.
The alarming situation is that health department officials are not doing anything to prevent this menace. If it is not controlled it will create havoc and an epidemic-like situation in the twin cities just like the situation in Lahore two years ago. It is my humble request to health officials to please take some precautionary measures so that we are not made victims of this terrible sickness.
