Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Saturday urged Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial to take suomotu notice of alleged “custodial torture” on Senator Azam Swati and over claims of having received an objectionable video featuring his family.

Taking to Twitter, Imran Khan urged the chief justice to take notice of Swati’s wife being sent a private video of her and her husband from an unknown number. The former premier also apologised to the senator’s wife “on behalf of Pakistan” for the pain and humiliation she faced by being sent that video. Imran Khan stated that “Pakistan was created on Islamic moral values of human dignity, honour of the family and inviolability of chadar [veil] and chardawari [home]”. He stated that “what has happened to Azam Swati at the hands of the state has been a blatant violation of all these values – from being stripped naked to custodial torture.” Imran spoke about the recent video “where privacy of his [Swati’s] wife has been violated.””It is both shocking, despicable and utterly condemnable. No human being should have to suffer this. I call on the CJP to take suomoto notice of this,” he stated. Further, he apologised on behalf of Pakistan to Swati’s wife, “a very private, non-public, tahajutguzaar lady [pious lady] for the pain, anguish and sense of humiliation she is having to suffer”.
