Sir: An incident in which some students and teachers of Dow University of Health and Sciences, Karachi, travelling on a campus bus were robbed by criminals in broad daylight barely raised an eyebrow. Such news hardly shocks anyone in this country any more.
The basic reason is the nation has become accustomed to being robbed.
Pakistanis have acted as mute spectators while the national exchequer was relieved of billions of rupees by the corrupt and the wealth amassed abroad. This is why national institutions and state enterprises like EOBI, PIA, steel mills and the railways are in a shambles.
No wonder this bus robbery, the second such incident, did not cause much of a reaction among the people.
A fish always rots from the head. Similarly corruption has become ingrained in Pakistani society, which is rotting from the top. This nation must rise and put a stop to the rot or else sit and do nothing and only beg for divine intervention.
