Double standards of politicians

Author: Daily Times

Sir: It is very unfortunate that Mullahs (clerics) have united together again to save themselves. Maulana Fazlur Rehman has taken the lead and made the parliamentary parties hostage. In a hurried press conference, he told the journalists that he will not support the Constitutional Amendment Bill because his reservations have not been addressed by the government. After his withdrawal, the leaders of other religious parties have come out to support his stance on Madrassas (seminaries) reform. The voting on the crucial Amendment Bill was postponed for another day. I think the government has bowed down before Maulana Fazlur Rehman and ultimately would accept his demands. Maulana Fazl has reservations because he does not want to be sidelined in politics. The government and society will have to show a bold stance against the double standards of these politicians.
