21st amendment

Author: Daily Times

Sir: The 21st amendment made in the wake of the terrorist attack on Army Public School (APS) in Peshawar is unjust, biased, discriminatory and prejudiced. The definition and motives of the newly established laws are narrowly based and mainly aimed at a particular community that practices religious violence, whereas high treason, hijacking, attacks on national installations, target killing, ethnic and racial violence, abduction and arson of public property are beyond this definition. It seems a group of hyenas sat in, decided against a pack of wolves but ignoring a long saga of their own inhuman acts of national crimes. Basic and fundamental rights provided in the constitution would find no place in the presence of this amendment. Accepting this amendment means providing overseas assistance to Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (TADA) and Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) for the Indian security forces in Indian Occupied Kashmir. Also this act snubs the moral justification of the public support to the victims of the war crimes tribunal in Bangladesh. Free nations believe in freedom and independence of the judiciary and justice for all on an equal basis. Being a politician, military official or militant other than religious one does not mean you are a sacred cow and have sanctuary from the law. A free and fair trial is the fundamental right of everyone and the constitution adheres to this principle for all. Empowered with Article 19 of the constitution, I hereby dare to speak against this act of partial justice that is based on a false foundation.
