Death by food

Author: Daily Times

Sir: According to news reports, a teenage girl has died in Karachi due to food poisoning after eating at a fast food restaurant. Every member of the family fell ill after eating there but 13-year-old Kinza breathed her last at the hospital where they were all admitted after eating the disastrous food. While this news is truly sad, it does not come as a shock. The standard of hygiene and the procurement of meat and ingredients for a majority of restaurants and fast food chains in this country are quite appalling. There are close to zero standards of quality and no checks and balances whatsoever. Sometimes the very meat we find in our food comes from a dubious source.

There must be a strict system in place that not just fines restaurants found to be lacking in quality and hygiene, but also shuts them down for good.
