Use of drone technology

Author: Daily Times

Sir: During a major policy speech, President Barack Obama has defended the use of drone technology for limited purposes against terrorists where it is feasible while ensuring little collateral damage to civilian life. I have a serious objection to his stance for two reasons. Firstly, it is not possible with certainty that drones would only target suicide bombers and terrorists and not innocent persons. Secondly, it is against human rights and humanitarian laws. It is also against our sovereignty and territorial integrity. The use of drone technology in Pakistan is a clear violation of many international laws and basic principles of freedom and liberty.
