Sir: The Sindh government had formed a company titled North Sindh Urban Services Corporation (NSUSC) to improve the infrastructure and ensure provision of efficient services in the fields of water supply, drainage, sanitation and solid waste management. Initially this pilot project was introduced in Sukkur old, Sukkur new, Rohri, Shikarpur, Khairpur and Larkana. The citizens of these cities were facing problems of choked sewerage lines, overflowing gutters, heaps of garbage on the circular roads and streets and the acute shortage of drinking water. The defective sewerage and drainage systems have played havoc with the health of residents of the cities. The main roads often remain inundated in gutter water. The roads and cemented blocks of streets have been damaged due to the presence of stagnant sewerage water. The obnoxious smell emitting from accumulated garbage and stagnant sewerage water have generated epidemic and contagious diseases among the residents, especially among children. Mostly, the residents of Shikarpur city are in great trouble. Sukkur city experiences the acute shortage of potable water. This is the result of sheer negligence of management of the NSUSC at all levels.

There is a need for installation of a proper sanitary and sewerage system to improve unhealthy conditions to protect the people, especially children, from various critical diseases.
