Sir: Anti-women laws, gender violence, honour killings, rape and abuse — the list of transgressions against women is unending. According to a strategic paper, four out of every five women in Pakistan face some form of domestic abuse. A blind girl was gang raped once in our country but was charged under the Zina laws because she was unable to identify her rapists.
There is no denying the fact that women are a vital and respectable part of any nation, and have equal rights and opportunities as men. However, in Pakistan, decisions made by women concerning their own lives are considered a huge crime. In April last year, a woman from Sargodha was murdered by the members of her own family because she wanted to obtain a divorce from her abusive husband. Such acts should be condemned and there should be a huge punishment for those who violate the basic rights of women.
