Resourceful Pakistan

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Pakistan is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of natural resources but also one of the poorest countries due its unstable economy. Pakistan has the second largest salt mines, fifth largest coal reserves and seventh largest copper mine but unfortunately our economy sustains on loans taken from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). It has the second largest dam, three nuclear reactors and five rivers but the problem of load shedding has not been resolved. Despite having nuclear capability and the sixth largest army, Pakistan is unable to take action against drone attacks. It has the seventh largest wheat and rice production capacity yet people are dying of hunger. It is quite amazing to note that the country that has potential to generate electricity for the next 100 years is facing a severe energy crisis.

Main reasons for this mismanagement are our corrupt leadership and our submissive attitude. Pakistan has been facing many crises and problems since the time of its independence but today, the situation has worsened. There is a crisis of everything from the essential necessities like food, cloth and shelter to the security of lives.
There are numerous renewable and non-renewable resources that have not been exploited for the development of the country. It is sufficient to say that the proper exploitation of natural resources would put the country on the path of progress.
