Sir: The word selfie became common in 2010. The selfie is an essential part of any event, party, wedding, gathering or daily routine. The word selfie makes you realise you do not need someone with a camera to get your picture taken. You can take it anytime, anywhere and without any reason just with your smartphone. According to some people, the person who takes too many selfies is self-centred, self-obsessed and a narcissist. It is true to some extent. People post their pictures on social media and check their phones all day long to see if they are receiving praise. Checking their phones makes them unaware of the people and happenings around them. They do not have a social life; instead they have a social media life, which is more than an addiction.
On the other hand, when people see beautiful pictures of another person, they feel like sharing their best ones, which creates a sense of competition among them and the less fortunate feel deprived, inferior and their self-esteem is shattered.
