Revision in CSS syllabus

Author: Daily Times

Sir: After about 35 years, the recent modification of the Central Superior Services (CSS) course to align the bureaucrats’ recruitment procedure with modern demands is no doubt a welcome development. Hopefully, it would have positive effects on the government’s administrative hierarchy. An innovative, skilful and up-to-date bureaucracy is imperative to run the country effectively.

But the timing to bring a change in the CCS syllabus is not right. As the new curriculum has introduced a few new subjects, it will take some time for the publishers and book sellers to arrange the required material for aspirants in the market.
With already less than a year to go before the next year examinations and with a more detailed syllabus, it would be quite a conundrum for aspirants to cover the whole course in time. This shift would be difficult for those who were preparing for the CSS exam for years and those who completed their higher studies on the old pattern of CSS.
Considering all the parameters, the Federal Public Service Commission should defer the implementation of the new rules till 2017 so that the aspirants’ years of endeavour may not go in vain, and new students and book publishers can adjust accordingly.
