Respect for national flag

Author: Daily Times

Sir: I want to submit that the respect for the national flag is diminishing in our society, particularly our youth give it less importance. For them, it is an ordinary piece of cloth or paper with a beautiful image of the moon and star. A few months ago, I watched a match between Pakistan and India during the World Cup 2015. Among the audience, some young boys were carrying a huge national flag of Pakistan. They waved the flag when Pakistan was seemingly in the winning position. However, they spread the same flag on the ground and sat on it when Pakistan was losing. In the end, when Pakistan lost that match, they tore that flag into pieces. It means that they had no respect for the national flag. I request the authorities concerned to direct the heads of educational institutions to inculcate respect for the national flag in the minds of students. The students should know that our national flag is very important. The national flag has symbolic significance and all independent nations give great importance to their national flags.
