Immunisation

Author: Daily Times

Sir: The World Immunisation Week is celebrated in the last week of April. Throughout the world, this global campaign serves to create awareness and increase the rates of immunisation against many diseases that can be prevented with the help of vaccines. Immunisation can help prevent up to 25 different diseases such as polio, measles and tetanus. Pakistan is one of the three countries in the world where poliomyelitis is still categorised as an endemic viral infection. Thus it is important that we take part in spreading awareness by holding campaigns and vaccination drives. The rigid attitude of the people of rural areas towards vaccination and immunisation needs to be changed as it is what is preventing us from eradicating harmful diseases such as polio in Pakistan.
